This book was made for the exhibition Quantified Aesthetics held at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts in 2009/2010, for which works were to feature numbers, formulas, codes, or other mathematical organizational schemes. Tango is a rhythmical (and therefore numerical) and visual interpretation of the tango. The page widths correspond to the number of beats - each beat being equal to three inches. So a page representing a dotted quarter note is 9" wide, a quarter note 6" wide, and an eighth note 3" wide. Red used throughout the book acknowledges the sensuality of the tango, and the ink drawings indicate the components of the dance - steps, slides, and twirls.
