This book was made in response to a call for entries for The Decorated Book: Continuing the Tradition at the Athenaeum of Philadelphia. The Athanaeum supplied images of five books from their collection from which artists were to choose one and respond to it. The image of an elephant on one cover reminded me of the children's song about animals fleeing flood waters by getting on the Ark. A scroll seemed the appropriate stucture for telling the story, so I asked fellow artist, Jeff Raymond, to collaborate on the project by making the wooden scroll.
